H1N1 And Your Baby Can Be A Vulnerable Mix That Can Have Deadly Complications

For some people with certain diseases, there is an increased risk for complications or even death if they are infected with the swine flu. If an outbreak of H1N1 occurs and your baby has a lung condition like asthma, your baby may have a higher risk for dangerous complications or even death. Those who suffer from asthma have a much higher probability of developing severe complications than others.

In fact, almost 41 percent of swine flu hospital patients in New York City suffered from asthma. And recently, seven deaths relating to swine flu were reported in New York. Of those seven deaths, 6 of them involved people who had asthma. If you are worried about H1N1 and your baby with asthma, you should speak with your physician and see if he recommends any special precautions regarding the swine flu even if there is no flu in the area where you live.

The H1N1 swine flu is a virus that brings about influenza in humans. The virus has gone through a recent mutation into its present form. Due to this mutation, humans have no immunity to the illness. This is the reason that governments worldwide are worried about the possibility of a pandemic.

Like the seasonal influenza, serious complications and even death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus. In the U. S. alone, about 36,000 folks die each year from flu related complications.

If you are worried about H1N1 and your baby, protecting your family, or know someone that has a special risk factor, do some swine flu preparation. Do what is necessary to protect yourself and your family from the swine influenza. Once a pandemic occurs, it may be too late to do anything.

Greater H1N1 Risk For Your School Age Children

It was recently reported that a vaccine for H1N1 (swine flu) may be available as early as October or November However, the bad news is that flu season usually begins in early September when school resumes. This means that your school age children may be exposed to the H1N1 before a vaccine is available. So what are the risks and what can you do now to protect your school age children?

School age children that have certain diseases, are faced with an increased risk for complications or even death if they get the H1N1 virus These high risk diseases include; frequent chest colds, asthma, Copd, emphysema, and other respiratory conditions. Sometimes, school age children can have a very mild case of asthma even though they’ve never had an asthma attack. When this occurs, swine flu can be an extremely hazardous situation. If your child has any of the diseases listed above, you should call your physician immediately and talk about precautions that you and your school age children should take regarding the H1N1 virus before they go back to school.

In the event of an outbreak of H1N1 and one of your school age children has a lung condition like asthma, your son or daughter will be at risk for serious complications or even death. It is well documented that those who suffer from asthma have a significantly greater risk of getting severe complications than others.

In fact, about 41% of individuals hospitalized in New York suffered from asthma. And not too long ago, seven deaths relating to swine flu were reported in New York. Out of those 7 deaths, six of the individuals had asthma. If you are concerned about your school age children with asthma, you should call your doctor and see if he recommends that you take any special precautions regarding the your children and swine flu even if there is no flu in the area where you live.

H1N1 is a virus that induces influenza in humans. The virus has gone thru a mutation into its present form. Due to this recent mutation, we have no immunity to the disease. This is the reason that governments worldwide are concerned regarding the possibility of a pandemic.

Like the typical seasonal flu, severe illnesses and death has happened as a consequence of sickness related to this serious disease. Just in the U.S., nearly thirty-six thousandindividuals die yearly from flu related complications.

If you are concerned about your school age children, protecting your family, or have one of the special risk factors listed above, do some swine flu preparation now. Do what is necessary to guard yourself and your loved ones from the swine flu. Once an outbreak occurs, it could be too late.

Swine Flu is a respiratory disease, caused by a tiny spheroid virus that belongs to the Influenza A virus group (known as H1N1) that is capable of infecting humans, birds and pigs. It is contagious and can be passed from one species (e.g., birds) through an intermediate animal host (e.g., pigs) to a third species (e.g., humans).

Although, H1N1 is the same virus that causes seasonal outbreaks of flu in humans, the latest type is different as it is a mutated version containing genetic material that is generally found in strains of the virus that affect humans, birds and pigs.

This time, the flu viruses from humans and pigs have swapped genetic components with each other, and evolved into a completely new variety. It is now a wholly human disease and can be transmitted from person-to-person.

Swine flu virus is genetically different from the human H1N1 seasonal flu virus that has been circulating throughout the world for the past few years. The new virus contains DNA that is typical to avian, swine and human viruses, including elements from European and Asian swine viruses.

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to ordinary flu. The major swine flu symptoms are:

• Fever and chills
• Aches and pains
• Fatigue, tiredness
• Sore throat, scratchy throat
• Runny nose
• Cough and head congestion
How to protecting yourself against Swine Flu?

Take the below steps to protect yourself against swine flu viruses.

• Wash your hands often with antibacterial soap
• Avoid contact with person who shows symptoms of a cold
• Keep hand sanitizers with you in case you do not have access to water
• People who work in pigs farm should take extra precautions
• Avoid group activities or do not go to crowd unless absolutely necessary

If you find that you are showing any flu like symptoms, try to avoid contact with others until you have been examined by a doctor or had tests done. Stay home from school or work, and be sure to keep your nose and mouth covered when you cough or sneeze. Keep complete information about swine flu as this will help you a lot to protect against it.

To learn more about swine flu H1N1, how is the virus transmitted and how to guard against H1N1, you need to know the complete information on swine flu H1N1. Be sure to pick up the book on swine flu to keep yourself and your family away from this pandemic disease.

Are you worried about or going through the H1N1 flu? One of the most important things to do is wash your hands frequently. If you deal with people on a daily basis or handle money you need to have some hand sanitizer. It does not hurt to have a healthy body but from the news today people who are healthy are getting sick. So not having a healthy body, such as being over weight increases your chances of getting the H1N1 flu.

Do you have a H1n1 (swine flu) prevention manual?

The H1N1 is a mixture or influenza viruses found in pigs, that`s where the swine flu name comes from. The pigs will pick up the human, avian, and swine viruses. They all get mixed up in the pigs body and the next thing you know a new flu is born, H1N1 virus.

One easy way not to get the H1N1 flu is stay away from pigs! You never know if they are infected or not. If you go to the fair and like to go to the stock yard exhibit, stay away from the pig or hog section.

A H1N1 flu prevention manual would be nice to have right about now! Especially if you do not have health insurance or enough money to cover the cost of the vaccination shot or spray. Find out where to get yours below

If you cook pork you must make sure the inside temperature of the meat is 160 degrees, this will kill the bacteria and viruses that may be in the meat. All the meat you cook should be at least 160 degrees.

You should use extra precaution if you are pregnant, have diabetes, heart disease, asthma, emphysema or if you are obeist because you are even more at risk of contracting the flu and the H1N1 flu. Even though people with healthy bodies are getting the H1N1 flu it can help the body fending off the flu.

As you have probably have heard, when you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with a tissue, arm, or hand. If you use your hands wash them immediately after wards and if you use tissue make sure you dispose of it properly, just don`t leave it laying around. You may want to use a mask to cover your nose and mouth if there are other people in your household. Try and stay at home if you do have the flu, if you have to travel out use your mask.

You need to go to the doctor if you think you have the H1N1 flu to get a prescription to get rid of it. (if you have insurance!) Be careful if you have children or teenagers and DO NOT give them aspirin! This can cause Rye`s Syndrome and they can die from it.

Your local news will or should keep you updated on the H1N1 flu, it seems like everyday something new comes up. Like I said before a H1N1 virus prevention manual would be good to have, if everyone had one at the beginning of all this, it may have not become such of a epidemic.

I do have H1N1 (swine flu) prevention manual and you can find out more about it on my website.

The President has rendered the swine (H1N1) influenza blow-up a national emergency. According to an October 2009 FluView announcement conveyed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been 32,814 documented cases of the swine flu on a national scale. This quantity does not take into consideration avian (H5N1) virus (bird flu) or seasonal virus cases. And virus movement is, at this point, common in all but 2 states!

You may possibly be asking yourself, “How does this bear upon me and my family? And what could I feasibly do regarding it?” There are particular solid steps you can take now to help safeguard you and your loved ones if the H1N1 influenza epidemic invades your area (for all one knows it already has). Added to some good hygiene reminders, valid flu epidemic guidance (at http://www.fight-the-flu.net) and an ‘H1N1 influenza pandemic kit’ (info at http://www.squidoo.com/swine-flu-prevention-and-pandemic-kits) are the most practical actions you can undertake without delay.

So what is a swine virus pandemic kit?

Don’t mistake a swine virus ‘pandemic kit’ with a swine virus ‘test kit’, which is used to determine if an individual has the swine virus. Simply put, a swine influenza pandemic kit is an integrated accumulation of preventive knowledge and necessities that you could draw on throughout an influenza pandemic or epidemic emergency. Please do not reckon that an influenza pandemic kit will fix up a person who comes down with the influenza. You want to get medical help for the suffering person if possible, as soon as possible!

You can procure professed ‘all-in-one’ standalone epidemic emergency kits, but you’re almost certainly better off putting together a personal kit on your own. Henceforward, YOU control the options, financial investment, AND worth of your kit. But, if you own or bank on obtaining a standalone kit, you could continually renovate it by depositing more items to it. In an emergency, possessing no more than a standalone kit is further along than having nothing at all. But think over that it’s singularly an ‘elementary’ kit on its way to growing into a specially made, at-the-ready pandemic kit.

A plentifully fitted swine (H1N1) flu pandemic kit in addition metes out resistance and treatment for other classes of influenza pandemics or epidemics, such as the avian (H5N1) virus (bird influenza) and seasonal influenza. Scores of preparedness supplies will come in handy for further emergencies also, from an ordinary power failure to a biological, chemical, or nuclear incident.

I know that sounds like a good book but it is our current event. Is it possible that companies actually work on creating viruses? Seems strange why would anyone do that? Also I was thinking if you were working on a virus as a company for research or whatever would you not excersive great caution? Considering that you could potentially kill millions of people if the spread could not be contained. Another thing i was wondering is how exactly does one get permission to work on a strain of virus? I would think there would be a whole lot of paperwork involved in the process. Let alone wouldn’t it be locked up some place safe to keep it away from civilization?

It sounds to me that we are dealing with another fubar someone much further up the chain than I decided to fester upon us. But it does bring to light the incompetencies this nation keeps having to repair will be the death of us if we don’t change our ways. Making continued mistakes that cost taxpayers billions per year has got to end.

Make sure to use your own due diligence in researching the swine flu. Most indications are to treat this like any other flu and use precation. Keep Good Sanitary Conditions in your surroundings and on your persons and you should be able to avoid the virus.

Infectious Disease – Understanding the H1N1 virus
Co-Editor-in-Chief, Tracy E. Austin, MD
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 – 07:01 PM

Understanding Swine Flu Basics

There has been much ado about Swine Flu or the H1N1 virus. From the hype about the vaccine to the miscalculations of swine flu casualties, it has been difficult to find the truth about the disease.

The truth is that the name swine flu is not a new illness for a flu strain, yet this particular strain of the virus is. In addition, the vaccine created to prevent this particular flu underwent the same testing that the traditional flu shots undergo. Another truth is that there is no cure for the swine flu—it must run its course like its seasonal counterpart. In addition, swine flu does not come from pork.

With that out of the way, here is some useful information about swine flu that may you understand just what this virus really is.

What is the Swine Flu?

It is a strain of the influenza virus that has genetic material in common with viruses found not only pigs in Europe and Asia, but also birds and humans. Because of these multiple sources, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls this a quadruple reassortant virus.
Swine flu was first discovered in April of 2009. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared it in June 2009. It is spread through human to human contact, in the form of unprotected (mouth uncovered) sneezing and coughing as well as transferring the virus from a surface like a doorknob by touch. The unwashed hand then transmits the virus by touching the eyes, mouth, or nose.

Swine Flu History

Although the 2009 strain of swine flu was a new one, the name “swine flu” has quite a history. In fact, a more deadly early strain that appeared in 1918 is a descendant of the current H1N1 or swine flu. At that time, there was no previous flu viruses made up of both bird and swine genetic materials. In fact, the CDC writes that “many questioned whether such an explosively fatal disease could be influenza at all”.

Strains of this original H1N1 disease has cropped up influenza epidemics in 1957, 1977 and even 2006. The CDC has been studying this hybrid virus and the strains it produced in an effort to gain more understanding. Some researchers believe that the key is the original H1N1 virus, which hit the world in three waves over the spring, summer and winter of 1918 and 1919.

Another notable swine flu epidemic took place in 1977. The flu that year was widespread, but it was the vaccine that made the news. That year, according to Washington Post reporter David Brown, over 400 of the 43 million people vaccinated contracted Guillian Barre Syndrome or GBS. Twenty-five of those with GBS died of the illness. GBS causes muscle weakness and eventually paralysis.

Testing on the vaccine found that the vaccine used was not contaminated. Otherwise, the WHO say that the cause of the 1976-77 reaction to the vaccine is limited to that particular vaccine. Extra steps have been taken to ensure that the 2009 vaccine does not have the same effects.

Treating a Swine Flu Outbreak in Your Home

Symptoms
The signs of contracting swine flu are described by the CDC as fever, cough, body aches, headache, diarrhea, sore throat, vomiting and chills. Some people experience all of these symptoms; others only come down with a few.

Treatment
Swine is treated like its seasonal counterparts, with rest and no contact with the public. Stay at home until your fever is gone for 24 hours. The fever must be maintained without medications. Wash your hands often and cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing.

Seek emergency medical care if your fever is more than 103 and does not respond to medications. Also go immediately to the hospital if you experience trouble breathing, blue coloring in the skin, rash, abdominal pain and pressure, disorientation, unrelenting vomiting.
Swine Flu Prevention

The only way to prevent the flu is to wash your hands several times a day and get the swine flu vaccine. Some people wore masks during flu outbreaks to prevent transmission from stray coughing and sneezing droplets. However, the swine flu vaccine is a less conspicuous way to prevent coming down with the flu.

Flu Safety

The injected swine flu vaccine is comprised of an inactive version of the virus. The nasal spray vaccine is made from a live but weakened version of the virus. Although the vaccines may cause lfu-like symptoms, according to WHO, the swine flu virus cannot develop from the dead or weakened viruses in the vaccine.

Cases of people who have been vaccinated, but still contract the flu are not related to the vaccine itself. These people usually contract the virus within two weeks of getting their vaccine—before the vaccine has created full immunity within the body. In addition, immunity depends on the body receiving the vaccine. Not every body will develop immunity strong enough to overcome the virus. Vaccinated individuals can also catch the seasonal flu strains, as the swine flu vaccine does not work on seasonal flu strains.

Swine Flu Understanding

Understanding the swine flu is the best way to prevent/overcome the epidemic. It is also the only way that scientists can begin to understand pandemic flu strains of the past and to prepare for those of the future.

Flu vaccinations do not protect you from getting the flu. When you catch the flu, vaccinations should, and in most cases, reduce the severity of the flu. When you are injected with the virus, your body builds its own immunity to that virus. H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine is no different.

Virus strains can become resistant to antiviral drugs – similar to other diseases. The H1N1 Swine flu virus strain is resistant to older antiviral drugs, such as amantadine and rimantadine. Health officials tell us that Tamiflu (oseltamivir) works well against the H1N1 Swine flu virus. Tamiflu and Relenza (zanamivir) are two effective vaccines for the H1N1 Swine flu. But, you have to take the vaccine before you contract the flu. The big unknown is how long these antiviral vaccines will remain effective in your system.

There are some actions that you can take on your own without your doctor’s advice. The H1N1 Swine flu is spread through the air and on contact. The most obvious preventive actions are to wash your hands often and wear a mask. Those two actions are very effective. However, our culture doesn’t wear face masks as other cultures do, to keep from spreading a disease, or to keep from catching a disease. Washing our hands works well when in contact with others, but often we forget to do that after answering a phone or opening a door. It still amazes me the number of people using the restroom who don’t wash their hands – but, that’s another story.

So, what else can you do besides washing your hands? Build up your immune system and keep it strong and robust. Several articles that I’ve read recently indicate that N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) might be helpful in maintaining your health during this or any flu season. NAC is an amino acid coupled with a protein component. It is a precursor to glutathione. Every cell in you body can synthesize glutathione from three different amino acids, with L-cysteine being one of them.

Glutathione is a major weapon in your body’s arsenal for better health. It is an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals. It builds your immune system. It is also a mucolytic agent, meaning it breaks down or thins out lung-clogging mucous resulting from various respiratory diseases. Your liver is critical for glutathione synthesis. NAC has been shown to help in the detoxification process for liver and lung disorders.

Some Italian studies have shown that there is statistical evidence that NAC has been effective in reducing the severity of flu-like symptoms. In some cases it appears that NAC was able to reduce the likelihood of even catching the flu.

Other herbs and supplements that are believed to be effective in the treatment or prevention of flu-like symptoms are: vitamin D, elderberry, licorice root, ginseng, whey protein and possibly vitamin C, Echinacea and zinc. There is a concern that many of these herbs and supplements work by improving your immune system. There is some speculation that any kind of immune-stimulants might make flu symptoms worse, or even worse, result in death. Why? Because it is believed that the H1N1 Swine flu virus has been more deadly to those with healthy immune systems. My personal belief is that I would rather have healthy a robust immune system to ward off any flu virus, or any other contagion that I might encounter.

The H1N1 Swine Flu is a respiratory disease caused by a virus. The virus is spread from person to person in the same way that regular seasonal influenza and common colds spread. The USDA reminds consumers that all meat and poultry product are safe to eat when properly prepared and cooked.

H1N1 Swine Flu is an influenza virus causing mild to severe symptoms. The vast majority of people contracting the H1N1 Swine Flu have recovered on their own without a doctor or hospitalization. It should be noted, however, that death has occurred as a result of contracting the H1N1 Swine Flu in a few people.

The H1N1 Swine Flu has most, if not all, of the symptoms of seasonal flu. Seasonal influenza symptoms usually include fever, headache, aches and pains, fatigue, cough and chest discomfort. Sometimes you may have a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat and sneezing. The H1N1 Swine Flu has three distinct differences from seasonal flu – the symptoms may be more severe, and a significant number of cases have reported vomiting and diarrhea.

These symptoms are different from the common cold. The common cold usually has a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough and occasionally some chest discomfort. Aches and pain can occur, but are typically slight compared to the flu. It is rare to get a fever or headaches with the common cold.

To complete the comparison of symptoms – Airborne allergies usually have sneezing and runny or stuffy nose. Sometimes a sore throat and cough might occur along with fatigue. It is rare to have chest discomfort or headache with an airborne allergy. Aches, pains and fever are not considered symptoms of airborne allergies.

When should you become alarmed? The warning signs for children with H1N1 Swine Flu include: fast or troubled breathing, bluish or gray skin color, severe or persistent vomiting, extreme difficulty waking up, not drinking enough liquids, not interacting with others, extreme irritability – not wanting to be held. You should be very conscious is the flu symptoms improve; then, fever returns quickly and the coughing worsens.

The warning signs in adults are similar and include some additional symptoms such as: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, pain or pressure in your chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, and severe or persistent vomiting. As with children, adults may show improvement and a sudden return of fever and increased coughing.

The H1N1 Swine Flu, just like the common cold and airborne allergies can be slight, mild or severe. Everyone reacts differently. 70% of the patients hospitalized with the H1N1 Swine Flu have had one or more medical conditions that placed them in the ‘high risk’ category. High risk includes: pregnancy, diabetes, heart disease, asthma and kidney disease.

Take an inventory of your symptoms to see if you have influenza, common cold or an airborne allergy. Knowing what you have makes it easier for you to treat. The severity of the influenza symptoms could mean that you might have the H1N1 Swine Flu.

Vaccines are the only effective means you will have to protect yourself, your family and your co-workers from potential death from the H1N1 Swine Flu virus. When both the World Health Organization (WHO) and The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) put out a World-wide alert that this disease is serious and will infect hundreds of millions and potentially kill a million or more – common sense should tell us that we should probably pay attention. A recent news report indicated that of 700 pregnant women in the USA who contracted the swine flu from April 1- July 31, of this year – 100 were placed in intensive care and 27 of those died. This H1N1 virus has the potential to cause a million or more deaths and certainly will cause 100′s of millions of illnesses, many very severe. If you have ever had a bad case of the flu, you know that it made you feel like you were going to die. There is only one good reason to avoid taking this vaccine – that is if you have a severe life threatening allergy to chicken eggs – otherwise, if you value your life and the lives of others around you, you should take the H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine.

The highest risks groups for serious infections are:

1) Pregnant women – this group has a very high risk of complications for the mother and the fetus. The risks for having H1N1 are far greater for you and your baby than any risk from taking the vaccine. Ask your doctor about it.

2) Caregivers for children – if you work at a daycare center, are a babysitter or otherwise care for children, especially if any of the children are younger than 6 months of age, you are in a high risk group. Vaccinations will likely become mandatory by your employer.

3) Heath care workers – this group can easily be repeatedly exposed and can readily spread the swine flu to others. Health care workers will probably be required by their employers and possibly by law to receive this vaccine in order to continue working at their current job.

4) Age group 6 months old through 24 years old – this large group is likely to be repeatedly exposed in schools or daycare settings and this group has so far experienced the highest rate of serious infections and deaths.

5) Anyone in the age group 25-64 who has any health condition that is known to be associated with a high risk for complications from the flu, for example, this group includes anyone with asthma or other respiratory or immune system weaknesses – consult you doctor if you are unsure. Persons over 65 are not in the high risk category but should strongly consider the H1N1 vaccine, as well as a pneumonia vaccination. Many of the deaths from H1N1 were caused by pneumonia.

Is the H1N1 vaccine safe?

Yes, it is safe – it is much safer than allowing yourself to be vulnerable to H1N1. The vaccine is expected to have the same safety profile as the seasonal flu vaccine since it is made in the same manner and under the same controlled conditions by the same manufacturers that have been making the seasonal flu vaccines for decades. Also, so far, millions have already taken the H1N1 vaccine worldwide and no new safety risks have been recorded. The most common side effects are mild redness, soreness or swelling at the injection site and in some cases a low fever, aches or mild nausea that lasts 1 to 2 days.

How is the vaccine administered?

The H1N1 vaccine is administered in 2 ways – a nasal spray called LAIN or an injection. The nasal spray is not available for pregnant women.

If you are under age 25, are pregnant, work in a health care or caretaker capacity or have any underlying medical conditions, you should definitely take this swine flu (H1N1) vaccination as soon as it becomes available in your area. I am personally in none of these categories, but, I will definitely be taking this vaccination as soon as it is available to me. I have been following the development of this disease closely for over a year now and am more concerned about its potential danger than ever. I have talked to several people who have had it and they tell me it is not something to take lightly. There have been 16 deaths in my area already and one was a 19 year old girl in excellent health. Even though some cases are reportedly not any worse than the seasonal flu, the reports of many deaths in otherwise health individuals and the possibility that the virus strain may mutate to an even more serious strain suggests that a wise person will get the H1N1 vaccination ASAP. Get vaccinated, or at least ask your doctor what he thinks you should do, if not for your own health then for the health of those exposed to you.
